Antiinflammatory Care for IC: 3 Things

slide-rheu-photoThe pain of IC is related to pelvic inflammation particularly of the bladder   The flares that occur are related to the episodic increase in intensity of this inflammation So it stands to reason that the treatment for such a chronic disease would be antiinflammatory(AIF)   This is not rocket science, folks!   And there is a wide host of naturally occurring AIF   For example, tumeric is commonly used in cooking and is a well understood AIF which when used with black pepper is potentiated even further in terms of its AIF effectNow the well respected National Institutes of Health(NIH) published a year ago(October of 2011) a review article on antiinflammatory therapies using the energy science Ayurvedic formulary   This article essentially says what I have been advocating for the last 5 years:  that we need to marry the matter science discipline of the West(so called matter science healing) with the energy sciences such as Ayurveda and the traditional Oriental Medicine(TOM)   An East meets West in healing traditions

Importance of the Study

This may not seem like a big deal to a casual observer but as an interested clinician involved in the treatment of such chronic diseases as IC this type of article is landmark  The event metaphorically states that even a conservative government agency such as the NIH is willing to review, endorse, and support the use of natural therapies of the energy science of Ayurveda, recognizing them as not only safe but efficacious

In the health arena it is very normal and expected that the consumer with a painful bladder is timid about trying “new therapies” that can potentially help them because nobody in the medical establishment has condoned their value   Further the allopathic(matter science clinicians) tradition are reticent to support the use of such therapies since they are not “tried and true” and supported by evidence based medical(EBM)review Because of this there is a tendency in the current medical profession to stonewall articles that speak to the use of natural remedies to help with painful bladder syndrome because they are not consistent with the status quo and EBM

The AIF Nutritional Format

But what about just regular food?   Hippocrates, said to be the father of Western medicine, wrote that “Food is medicine and medicine is food”   We have been so ingrained traditionally to believe that food is just something we put in our mouths and takes care of our appetites that it doesn’t really have a medicinal effect to help a painful bladder But let’s rethink this  If you take in 3T of salt you know that there will direct and distinct physiologic consequences   You’ll pee more, require lots of water, maybe get acid indigestion, have tight feeling skin, have excess hot sensation in the body   All because you took in some food in this case salt The energy science perspective is that foods can be inflammatory and that’s why they lead to symptoms of pain   So a well delineated energy science nutritional format can be AIF with no grey areas   It won’t lead you astray   Coupled with the incompatible food combination list which is basically a group of foods that when joined together produce inflammation you have a way of using nutrition in a AIF way There are three things you can do right now to help yourself with IC pain 1 Go to the above links and begin following the nutritional formats 2 Begin using the AIF cocktail we spoke about in an earlier blog 3 Begin using cumin, coriander, fennel seeds, tumeric, and cardamon in your cooking   All are AIF Until next week                          Love DrBill

3 Ways to Reduce the Inflammation of IC and Endometriosis

If you have bladder IC and endometriosis you are experiencing a sort of double whammy   You have two painful inflammatory pelvic conditions to deal with   And that’s a bummer   The pain may be doubly intense or at least seem like it   And the social, physical, psychological, and emotional debility is energy draining

But what if you could do something that doesn’t cost you anything and could reduce your symptoms by as much as 50%?   All you have to do is take on the responsibility of nutritional choices and use aloe vera gel among many other natural ways to reduce inflammation

So is there a relationships between these two inflammatory conditions?  The short answer to the question is that it depends   From your doctor’s matter science view the answer is NO   From an energy science view the answer is definitely YES   This makes the decision easy because you don’t have any choices with the former take

Matter Science Take on Endometriosis

From a mechanical molecular science view endometriosis is an inflammatory condition involving the peritoneum where endometrial implants occur in the pelvis leading to recurrent pelvic pain typically around menses

Due to its cyclical nature of symptoms it’s thought that there is somehow a correlation between IC and endometriosis  But the organ origin of theses inflammatory conditons are different and therefore there is no association between the two diseases

As a matter of fact endometriosis may be far more overdiagnosed for pelvic pain than is a reality  Definite biopsy confirmation of apparent lesions has to be part of the evaluation

And what can be done for inflammation?  The matter science says there are some obvious ones such as stop smoking, some not so obvious such as obesity and its role in inflammation, and then advice that is incorrect such as eating seafood by some for omega 3   If you want to get omega 3 get it from freshwater fish

The Inflammatory Pathway

The energy science says that the majority of diseases have an element of inflammation in them and this fits what people are talking about on the streets

If you’re waiting for the definitive answer from the molecular research as to decide what to do you’re in for a long wait and by then it won’t make any difference to you

As a retort to the antiinflammatroy craze, John Swartzberg, M.D., Chair, Editorial Board at the Berkley Wellness Newsletter (2008) says “Whether inflammation actually causes chronic diseases or merely accompanies them is unknown. Some scientists and hundreds of marketers are way too eager to translate theories into “news you can use.” Believe me, there isn’t any news here. Eat sensibly, get regular exercise, watch your weight, drink alcohol moderately, if at all, and don’t smoke. It’s a long road from a theory to a fact.”

Although others in the research world aren’t as dismissive as Dr Swartzberg, the matter science discussion around inflammation eventually revolves around obesity   And from an energy science view obesity is an inflammatory issue

But what if you have IC and endometriosis and you’re not fat???   Then what?

3 Things You Can Do Right Now About IC and Endometriosis?

The matter science answer to antiinflammatory lifestyle ends with  diet(correct only from a molecular point of view)  This advice from a energy science view is at times faulty due to the model from which it is derived   But what about all the other issues that produce inflammation lifestyle wise?

What about overexercise, overeating, overworking?   Do those count in matter science realm?  And what about incompatible food combinations, and other energy science nutritional advice absent from matter science workers?

But you can right now take the responsibility to make changes you make on a daily basis to take on responsibility for your health   This isn’t for everyone   Some will stay stuck in their old habits because it’s scary to change and who’s to guarantee that making the changes will help you?

1  Do the Pitta pacifying nutritional format for 6 weeks

Avoid incompatible food combining for 6 weeks

3  Use aloe vera gel 2T 3x per day

The key is to stick with it and convince yourself!!   Good luck         To Health as a Skill  Love Dr Bill

IC and Bladder Inflammation: Herbal Remedies

The pain of IC is related to pelvic inflammation particularlyof the bladder   The flares that occur are related to the episodic increase in intensity of this inflammation

So it stands to reason that the treatment for such a chronic disease would be antiinflammatory(AIF)   This is not rocket science, folks!   And there is a wide host of naturally occurring AIF   For example, tumeric is commonly used in cooking and is a well understood AIF which when used with black pepper is potentiated even further in terms of its AIF effect

Now the well respected National Institutes of Health(NIH) published a year ago(October of 2011) a review article on antiinflammatory therapies using the energy science Ayurvedic formulary   This article essentially says what I have been advocating for the last 5 years:  that we need to marry the matter science discipline of the West(so called matter science healing) with the energy sciences such as Ayurveda and the traditional Oriental Medicine(TOM)   An East meets West in healing traditions

The AIF Nutritional Format

The energy science perspective is that foods can be inflammatory and that’s why they lead to symptoms of pain   So a well delineated energy science nutritional format can be AIF with no grey areas   It won’t lead you astray   Coupled with the incompatible food combination list which is basically a group of foods that when joined together produce inflammation you have a way of using nutrition in a AIF way

There are three things you can do right now to help yourself with IC pain

1 Go to the above links and begin following the nutritional formats

2 Begin using the AIF cocktail we spoke about in an earlier blog

3 Begin using cumin, coriander, fennel seeds, tumeric, and cardamon in your cooking   All are AIF

The Painful Molecules of Inflammation: NO Infection NO Cure

Directionless

Everyone agrees that the pain of IC is related to inflammation but it may be surprising to find that all diseases from cancer to diabetes have an element of this inflammation  And this is where we are at in our current understanding of disease from a matter or molecular science point of view  And we as the signpost points are left with no direction

There are many painful molecules that have now been identified that produce inflammation in the mindbody  We have identified many of these molecules  But what causes them to begin to show up in the first place? The answer from the matter science is infection often times because foreign organisms incite a white cell response which produce this molecular inflammatory response

But IC is defined as a nonbacterial inflammatory response  So no infection but inflammation nonetheless  And we are all well aware of many different diseases that produce inflammation without infection such as rheumatoid arthritis

This is why at this point in time the matter science urologist has no answer for your IC  No infection No Cure  Treatable but not curable

Understanding Inflammation Through Energy Science Glasses

If we take off our matter(molecule) science glasses and view the mindbody through energy field glasses we see the mindbody as an energy field

There are three necessary biologic energy patterns according to the science of Ayurveda:  the energy of movement Vata, the energy of transformation Pitta, and the energy pattern of stability Kapha

As we discussed with you earlier inflammation is a result of excessive hot quality resulting in inflammation regardless of whether there is infection or not

When the energy pattern of Pitta becomes excessive(too much of the hot quality) then inflammation and the excruciating pain of IC is the result

3 Ways To Reduce Inflammation and IC Symptoms

Unless we’re breatharians we routinely do one thing every day:  EAT  This is why foods become so important in the management of this chronic condition labeled as IC   “Label” is a specific term for the broader term inflammation  Other labels used by the matter science urology tradition include chronic pelvic pain syndrome(CPPS) and chronic prostatitis

So you can do 3 things right now:

Go to foodsheal.com right now and take the quiz    Then choose the appropriate nutritional format and print the pdf format off so you have it to follow

Read the incompatable food combination list and print off that file as well and post both on your refrigerator so you can reference them regularly  Incompatible foods produce inflammation

Use aloe vera gel(not the juice) on a regular basis (2T three times per day)   Take it to work, travel with it, and make a ritual out of its use  Why?  This herb reduces the hot quality(think of applying aloe on a hot sunburn) by using the opposite quality of cold
